Introduction
Events are important to Story Structure and for new writers, placing events is a PAIN POINT.
You are told to focus on many things:
- Characters
- The Story World
- The Dilemma
- The Moral Premise
- The Acts
- The Sequences
With so much fake news and fake advice, it’s no wonder you’re confused and all over the place.
The Building Blocks
Think of Events as large building blocks in your Story.
As a building block, they are PLACEHOLDERS.
So, regardless of where you start, with Characters or Dilemma or Drama or the Moral Premise, you should add your Events as a PIECE in your Story.
For example, if Act 1 is about introducing your Protagonist, what HAPPENS to her?
- What is her inciting incident?
- What is her “Debate?”
- Who is her Mentor?
Believe it or not, that’s all you need to know.
Now that you know WHAT THE EVENT IS, you simply refer to an infographic about EVENT PLACEMENT.
